Fursuit Care Instructions
Following these care guidelines will help keep your suit looking and performing its best for years to come!
Between-wash Care
Brush your suit using a slicker brush before and after each outing
To protect your suit wear compression wear and a balaclava
After an outing flip the suit inside out and mist with 70%-90% isopropyl alcohol or a trusted fursuit spray
Storage
Store your suit on a hanger in a dry location out of direct sunlight with padding installed
Never store a damp or wet suit
For added freshness store with dryer sheets in the bodysuit, handpaws, feetpaws and head
Do not store folded or in a space bag for an extended period of time to avoid crinkling the fur fibers
Gown length garment bags are useful for preventing dust buildup for extended storage
What NOT to Use
To prevent damage to fur fibers, foam, seams, and finishes, do not use the following on your fursuit:
Hot water or heat of any kind
No hot washes, dryers, heat guns, or hair dryers
Heat can melt fibers, warp foam, and permanently damage fur
Bleach or whitening agents
Including chlorine bleach and color-safe bleach alternatives
These will weaken fibers and cause discoloration
Harsh household cleaners
Including disinfectant sprays, all-purpose cleaners, ammonia, or vinegar
Alcohol soaking
Alcohol is fine for light misting only, never soak fur or foam
Washing machines with agitators
Agitators can tear seams, stretch backing, and damage padding
Twisting, wringing, or hanging soaking-wet suits
This can stretch seams, distort shape, and stress backing
Compressed storage
Avoid space bags or long-term folding, which can permanently crinkle fur
Bodysuit & Padding
Machine washable using cold water, Gentle detergent, delicate cycle, and low spin
Do not use a washing machine with an agitator
Flip the suit inside out when washing
Brush the fur while it is still damp to maintain texture and appearance
Hang dry in a dry area in front of a fan out of direct sunlight
Indoor Feetpaws
Machine wash using cold water, gentle detergent, delicate cycle, and low spin.
Wash in a bag or pillow case when possible to protect fur fibers
Do not use a washing machine with an agitator
Brush the fur while it is still damp to maintain texture and appearance
Prop up against a wall for drying, place in front of a fan to dry overnight
If paws are still very wet after the spin cycle use a green machine to get as much water out as possible before brushing and fan drying
Outdoor Feetpaws
Machine wash using cold water, gentle detergent, delicate cycle, and NO spin.
Wash in a bag or pillow case when possible to protect fur fibers
Do not use a washing machine with an agitator
Use a green machine to extract as much water as possible
Brush the fur while it is still damp to maintain texture and appearance
Prop up against a wall for drying, place in front of a fan to dry overnight
Spot Cleaning
For spot cleaning, I recommend using a Bissell Little Green machine and Folex carpet cleaner.
Spray the affected area with Folex and gently rub it into the fur
Let sit for 5–10 minutes
Spray with clean water and vacuum out, working in the direction of the fur whenever possible
Continue spraying and vacuuming until the water runs clear
Brush immediately after cleaning
Air dry fully, using a fan to speed up the process if needed
Spot Cleaning Towel method
If a little green is not available, or parts cannot be submerged follow this method
Get a small bowl filled with water and mix in tablespoon of gentle detergent
A spray bottle with water and detergent will also suffice, 1 part detergent 1 part detergent to 4 part water
Get 3 small towels, 1 for detergent mixture, 1 for clean water, 1 to dry
Dip towel into detergent mixture and gently scrub affected area
Spray with clean water and use clean water towel to lightly scrub soap suds out
Spray lightly to avoid soaking foam or polyfil
Use dry towel to get water out of fur and foam
Brush fur with the grain direction
Air dry fully, using a fan to speed up the process if needed
Tub Cleaning
Fill a tub or container with cool water, add gentle detergent
Fully submerge fursuit
Knead the water into your fursuit
For stubborn stains you can use a spoonful of OxiClean White Revive (note do not use too much or fibers can become dry and coarse, use cautiously and at your own risk)
Drain the tub and compress suit or parts to remove excess water
Fill tub up with clean water, submerge and knead suit
Repeat step 4
For bodysuits flip inside out, evenly distribute weight in washing machine and run a low spin only cycle
If a washer is not available, or you are cleaning parts or head, use a Green Machine to extract extra water. NEVER hang a wet fursuit
Thoroughly brush your suit with a slicker brush
Hang suit or place parts in a dry area with high airflow ideally in front of a fan
Do not hang a wet fursuit as it risks stretching out the materials
Head Cleaning
If your head is from Furesh it is waterproof and can be fully submerged. Follow tub cleaning method. Do not submerge it in salt water or chlorinated pools, as this can damage the fur fibers.
For general cleaning:
Use a Bissell Little Green and a spray bottle with a mixture of 1 part gentle, color-safe detergent to 5 parts water
Spray the head lightly with water, then apply the detergent mixture
Vacuum out the moisture, continuing to spray with clean water and vacuum until bubbles disappear
Use Folex for stains as needed, apply folex, massage into fur, spray with clean water and vacuum, repeat until water runs clear
Vacuum out as much water as possible and brush immediately
Place the head on a mannequin or stand and allow it to dry fully in front of a fan
